All of Colombo and its suburbs are currently under tight security. Security has been strengthened by deploying roadblocks like additional police and army battalions. After a joint operation by the police and the army to the Galle face protest area, those areas have been liberated. Also, the President has called on the armed forces to protect public order through a special gazette announcement.

Many foreign media reports have been published regarding the events that took place in Colombo last night. Here is how Aljazeera reported it to the world. The Sri Lankan military has taken control of the presidential secretariat in the capital after the “brutal beating” of protesters.  The soldiers also destroyed tents in the adjacent Gotagogama protest site, arrested several protest leaders and surrounded the area with about 100 protesters. The IT Centre, the Disabled Soldiers’ Tent, the Community Kitchen that served hundreds of free meals a day, the SYU Tent, the Hearing Impaired Tent, and the Gate Zero Tent – were destroyed.  The military attack came hours after protesters left their camp in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence, the Temple trees.  The protesters had already announced that they would leave the Presidential Secretariat on July 22 before. Around midnight we heard that a large group of army troops were heading towards Gotagogama and suddenly we saw them running to the presidential secretariat,” Nipun Charaka Jayasekara, a young protester who was trapped in Gotagogama, told Al Jazeera..  “Soon, they stormed the area and brutally beat up the peaceful protesters, treating us as thugs.” He says. He also said that he was slightly injured while trying to escape from the army attack. -Al Jazeera-

A 2-week entry pass to Gotabaya

  Quoting the Singapore immigration authorities, a 14-day short-term entry permit has been granted to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who came on a personal visit on July 14, foreign media has reported. India’s NDTV channel reported that Mr Rajapakse was issued this short-term entry permit when he entered the country at the airport. According to the NDTV report, although Sri Lankans can usually extend this permit for 30 days, they have to apply for it online.

Nine arrested 2 hospitalised during the operation conducted at Galle face – The Police Media Spokesperson

Nine persons have been arrested during the operation conducted at Galle face The Police Media Spokesperson states that two people who were among the arrested people were injured and taken to the hospital.  Police Media Spokesman Mr. Nihal Talduwa said that these people will be presented to the court today. He said that the militants were removed from the main entrance of the Presidential Secretariat in the Galle face area in a joint operation by the Police Special Forces and the Security Forces.  Currently, the police are collecting fingerprints at the Presidential Secretariat.

Current situation in Sri Lanka-Police and Army attacked Galle Face Gogotagama

The Army and the Police Special Task Force attacked the protesters who were waiting at Galle face in front of the presidential office. They attacked the protesters and chased them away from the place and occupied the office of the President’s Secretariat. The military forces have managed to liberate the Presidential Secretariat and nearby areas within a very short time. The people involved in the protest have left the area and fled towards the mouth galle face. But all the roads entering and exiting the Galle face have been closed. A group of activists have also been arrested.

Microsoft Teams has been crashed all over the world

Microsoft Teams, an internet software that is widely used for office work and education from home, has been crashing all over the world since this morning (21).  According to the report, due to this, many people who are working in this regard have to face difficulties. Access to it is blocked and said to be a bug on these servers. Microsoft has noted the bug on the company’s official social media accounts and they say they are working to fix it soon.

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka-The number of covid 19 patients increasing daily

The number of covid patients reported daily is increasing.  The epidemiology department states that 75 patients were diagnosed yesterday (20) and 62 new patients were diagnosed yesterday (19).  Three women have died and it has been found that all the three deceased were infected with covid 19. Two of them are over 60 years old, while the other deceased are 30 and 59 years old. The last time more than 50 patients were reported was on April 10 , 54 patients have been reported.  On the 18th of this month, 34 patients were reported and on the 17th, 25 patients were reported. Thus, by 10.00 am yesterday (20), the total number of Covid patients in Sri Lanka is 664,572.

Actress Damita Abeyratne states that Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe becoming the President of Sri Lanka is not what the people of Sri Lanka expected. She also claims that by making Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe the President, the country’s public opinion has been completely thrown into the street. She said that the struggle will not end here and she is ready to die for the country. She made these comments while addressing a press conference held at Galle’s face.

Political Crisis in Sri Lanka-Law for those who forcibly captured the office of President & Prime Minister- President

The Fort Police is preparing to obtain a court order to evacuate the Galleface protesters who are still staying in the Presidential Secretariat.  It is also reported that the Attorney General’s Department has given the necessary instructions. The police headquarters has decided to take this court order about a complaint made by one of its secretaries to the Fort Police, which protects the properties of the Presidential Secretariat. Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday that it is illegal  for the people to take over the President’s office and the Prime Minister’s office under the guise of protest.  He also stated that the law will be implemented against such people
