A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit the Philippine island of Luzon on Wednesday (July 27) It has severely damaged a hospital and buildings in the northern province and sent strong tremors through the capital Manila. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate dispatch of rescue and relief teams to Abra, and He will also fly is to Abra,his press secretary said Wednesday. The 2022 Commonwealth Games begin in Birmingham, England

The 2022 Commonwealth Games begin in Birmingham, England tomorrow. More than 5000 athletes from 72 countries are going to participate in the 22nd edition of the Games. 110 athletes from Sri Lanka will be participating in it, including athletics, weightlifting, women’s cricket, rugby, badminton, gymnastics and swimming. Matches are being held in several stadiums including Alexander tadium and by now the athletes were coming to the host  country England. The University of Birmingham and several other hotels have been added to the sports village.  This is the third time England has hosted the Commonwealth Games.

The travel ban imposed on Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa be extended again until August 2nd

The Supreme Court ordered that the travel ban imposed on Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa be extended again until August 2nd.  That was when the fundamental rights petitions filed against them were called today before the five-member Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya. The fundamental rights petitions were filed asking the government to order an investigation against the people responsible for the economic crisis.

Galle Face protesters claim that LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is good and they respect the LTTE. The protesters said this to the military officers during the protests that took place after the security forces took over the land in front of the Presidential Secretariat. They said that they have not answered the war crimes charges levelled against the Sri Lankan Army and that the attacks like Galle face prove those war crimes. Corona outbreak in Sri Lanka-The Ministry of Health urges the public to wear Face masks again due to the rapid increase of covid 19 infections

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka-3 arrested while trying to sell items stolen from the presidential palace

Three individuals were arrested in the Welikada area who were ready to sell some items stolen from the Presidential Palace. The police said that on the 9th, the protesters entered the Presidential Palace, stole 40 gold-coloured brass balls that were fixed on the walls to hang window curtains, and then arrested the suspects when they were ready to sell them as antiques. Three arrested people aged 28, 34 and 37, residing in Rajagiriya, Obeysekarapura, were arrested. The Police Media Unit stated that the relevant suspects are to be handed over to the Colombo North Division Criminal Investigation Division, which is handling the investigations at the Presidential Palace, for further investigation.
