An official spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has responded to the situation in Sri Lanka.
He told the media in New Delhi yesterday that India fully supports the restoration of democracy, stability and the economy of Sri Lanka, a historically close neighbour.
He added that Sri Lanka has received about $ 3.5 billion in aid to help its neighbours overcome current difficulties on a priority basis.
Meanwhile, Subramanian Swamy, a senior leader of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling BJP, had tweeted:
“India should send Indian troops to re-establish constitutional security. Foreign forces against India are taking advantage of public anger. It will affect India’s national security.”
