Husband arrested for wife’s murder after 14 years

Police have arrested a man who brutally beat his wife to death with a stick.

The murder took place in 2007 and 14 years later the suspect’s husband was arrested.

It is reported that the suspect has been arrested during an investigation carried out by the Organized Crime Investigation Division.

In 2007, it was revealed that the suspect had been working at the Talawakele Post Office and was residing at Watagoda Estate in Talawakele at that time.

He was 49 years old when his wife died after being assaulted by the suspect.

Subsequently, the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court issued an order in 2009 directing the Colombo Organized Crime Investigation Division to launch a special investigation into the incident.

Police investigations have revealed that the 74 year old suspect has been staying in the Embilipitiya Tunkama area for 14 years.

The suspect was arrested by the police yesterday (22) and is due to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today.
