The Indian Special Envoy who arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (23) to discuss further financial assistance to Sri Lanka met President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Palace in Fort, Colombo, according to a Presidential Media Unit report.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra has said that the Indian government will extend its fullest support to Sri Lanka in overcoming the difficult situation that has arisen as a close friend.
Sri Lanka has already received essential food items including fuel, medicine and fertilizer under Indian loan assistance. The delegation said that the Government of India and the political authorities are committed to continuing to support Sri Lanka.
The Government of India plays a significant role in assisting Sri Lanka in difficult times. The President thanked the Government of India and the people of Sri Lanka for their appreciation and gratitude for that.
The two sides discussed at length the future course of action of the Indian aid program to stabilize and revive the Sri Lankan economy. The delegation also expressed confidence that the country would recover soon after the difficult period.
