Continuing Protests in Sri Lanka

People are protesting in Gall face Sri Lanka requesting the government to resign.
Meanwhile, Several police lorries were stationed in the vicinity of the Galle Face in Colombo.

The protest demanding the president’s resignation is also taking place nearby. Rumours were circulating that security forces were intervening to evict the protesters.

The convoy of police vehicles parked near the Galle Face in Colombo had been removed some time ago.

Since this morning, the police forces have been prepared to remove the protests that will be removed before the Presidential Secretariat.

Also, the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) says it is conducting training at an army camp in Kadawatha in preparation for an attack on Galle Face protesters.

Its propaganda secretary Duminda Nagamuwa said that the protest training was being conducted at the relevant army camp under the slogans chanted by the protesters at the Galle Modara ground.

He added that there was a suspicion that the group was planning to attack the protesters at Galle Face Green after the training.

He further stated that those responsible should make a statement in this regard by addressing a media briefing held by the party.

Meanwhile, the Police Sergeant who was arrested by the Fort Police yesterday for making a statement in support of the protesters in uniform during the protest against the government and the President at the gall face has been released on bail after being produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court. The case is set to return to court on May 29.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka urges the government to refrain from taking any action to prevent the people’s legal right to protest.

The Bar Association said in a statement that several police trucks were reportedly stationed near the protest site at Galle Face.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka points out that the trucks have been removed following a notification issued by the association following the revelation of the incident on social media.

The union says taking steps to prevent a peaceful protest by the people is a serious incident.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka emphasizes that such actions could have a serious impact on the country, democracy, the economy and the rule of law.
