When we go to the streets, we are surrounded by innocent people who have not received Rs. 2,000 – MP Chandima Weerakkody

Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) MP Chandima Weerakkody has stated that the people of the country are demanding money from those involved in the sugar scam.

“People are asking for money from the people involved in the sugar scam. Innocent poor people in our villages do not drink Red Bull to gain strength. A cup of tea with a little more sugar. Just as our athletes eat glucose, the innocent worker in our country builds his energy by drinking a cup of tea with a little too much sugar. There should be no excuse for selling sugar that was 65 rupees affecting that worker’s cup of tea at more than three times the price of Rs. 215 – 220.” He said

” The Secretary to the President has illegally sent a letter to the Office of the Commissioner of Companies Registration to stop the registration of companies with foreign shares in this country. Why not take action to sell sugar in this unfair way. Activate that Presidential Secretary’s pen. Therefore, we call on the people to stop this heinous crime. Today a kilo of dhal is 250 rupees.” He further added.

When we go to the streets, we are surrounded by innocent people who have not received Rs. 2,000. We urge those who make a profit by increasing the prices of sugar, dhal and rice not to earn money unfairly, he said

He stated this at a media briefing held in Galle.
