Media Minister Dalas Alahapperuma says that a solution to corona control should be found through scientific methods. The Minister also said that drinking honey or putting pots in rivers will not solve the problem of the corona. The Minister said that the curfew will end by the 30th and the support of the people is needed to complete the vaccination in the country. He said this while he was addressing the media in Matara.

Minister of State Ajith Nivard Cabraal says that all the people should work together to shorten the lockdown period in the country. He said that it was as important to the people as it was to the country’s economy development and that the country would not be able to move forward if the closure was not shortened now. He further noted that the loss to macroeconomic factors as well as the lives of the people due to the lockdown of the country is not insignificant. He points out that if the country’s income is lost due to the closure of the country, the debt cannot be repaid on time and , he questions although it is easy for those who earn a monthly salary and have money in bank deposits to face the lockdown the country how the four and a half million people who make a living on a daily basis face this lock down. He said this while he was speaking at a media briefing in Colombo.
Sri Lanka reported 198 covid 19 related deaths

Another 198 corona deaths are confirmed by the Director General of Health. It is the highest number of deaths ever recorded in a single day. At the same time the number of corona deaths in the country rises to 7183.

Genetic analysis of corona samples from corona infected people in various parts of the country, including Colombo, has confirmed84 out of 88 people as infected with the Delta strain. Dr. Chandima Jeewandara of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura said that the number of infected people with the data type identified in Sri Lanka so far is 201. He said that most of the Delta infected people were identified from the Colombo area and also from Kandy, Matale, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Vavuniya, Malabe and Gampaha areas. He further said that they had identified three other mutations in the Delta virus found in Sri Lanka and suspects it could be the main reason for the virus to spread so fast. He added that this situation could lead to the development of a new corona variety in the country in the future.

Sri Lanka ranks first in the South Asian region in the daily covid mortality rate per million population. Sri Lanka is currently among the top eight countries in the South Asian region in terms of the number of covid deaths per day per million population. This is due to the fact that covid deaths are calculated as high as 9 per million population. Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan are second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the list. Also Covid’s death has not been reported in the last 19 days in the Maldives. There have been only three deaths in Bhutan since the beginning of the covid expansion. Previously, Sri Lanka was ranked fourth in the list, but with the rapid increase in daily deaths over the past 10 days, it appears to have topped the list.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed officials to distribute Ayurvedic medicines all over the country

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed Minister of State for Indigenous Medicine Sisira Jayakody to visit homes and dispense local Ayurvedic medicines. Accordingly, this program will be implemented even during the period of curfew. It have been advised to take steps to provide Ayurvedic medicines to People in urban as well as rural areas.

The government has decided to provide an allowance of Rs. 2,000 to families who have lost their income during the period when the country is closed till August 30. The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance states that such activities will commence through the District Secretaries from Monday. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already informed the District and Divisional Secretaries to be prepared to take action in this regard. Earlier, when the country was closed, the government provided an allowance of Rs. 5,000 per month.
Price of a Litro Gas will be increased

Litro Gas has made a written request to increase the price of its own gas, similar to Laugfs’ gas. According to the Consumer Affairs Authority, the price increase will have to be allowed in the near future. Twenty-seven doctors at the Colombo National Hospital have been infected with the corona

Twenty-seven doctors at the Colombo National Hospital have been infected with the corona virus, hospital sources said. Also, 105 nursing staff and 192 other employees have been identified as infected. These facts have been revealed according to a report issued regarding the staff of the Colombo National Hospital. More than 600 corona infected patients are being treated at the Colombo National Hospital and 15 wards of the hospital are reserved for corona patients. Ninety corona patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital.
