The daily loss of Litro gas is 800 lakhs the price should be increased – Litro Chairman

Litro Gas Company Chairman Thushara Jayasinghe says that the company is losing around Rs. 80 million a day by supplying gas at current prices. He added that if this continues, Litro will also have to apply for a loan. He also said that the company had spent Rs. 10 billion in reserves this year alone by releasing gas to the market at a loss. He added that there had been no response to the long-standing demand for an increase in gas prices to keep the company afloat. The chairman said that the current prices in the world market are $ 368 per metric tonne of gas. But today, a metric ton of gas in the world market has risen to $ 665 and is expected to rise to $ 740 next month, he added.

Minister of Justice apologizes to threatened Anuradhapura prisoners

Justice Minister Ali Sabri has apologized to prisoners at the Anuradhapura prison for allegedly being threatened by Minister of State Lohan Ratwatte. He told parliament yesterday that the government was taking steps to investigate allegations leveled against Minister of State Lohan Ratwatte in Welikada and Anuradhapura prisons. An earthquake shook the city of Melbourne

An earthquake shook the city of Melbourne in the state of Victoria in Australia this morning (22). Its magnitude was 5.8 on the Richter scale. The quake struck at around 9.15 am local time today. Its epicenter was reported in the Mansfield area, not far from Melbourne. It is considered one of the largest earthquakes to hit eastern Australia. The quake was also recorded on CCTV cameras. About 15 minutes later, a magnitude 4 earthquake shook the region. Many buildings have been damaged. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. These include Victoria, Sydney, New South Wales, Adelaide, Tasmania, and Canberra. Steps have been taken to evict people living in apartments in Melbourne. Health guidelines issued to reopen schools

Relevant health guidelines regarding the reopening of schools have been handed over to the Secretary to the Ministry of Education by the Director General of Health Services.  Accordingly, the Ministry of Education states that the opening of schools will be done in accordance with those guidelines. The Lankathilake statue house in Polonnaruwa has been damaged by lightning. Lightning that exploded on the night of the 18th has also struck the Lankathilaka statue house in the Archaeological site. A 71-year-old dead after collided with a vehicle belonging to the Nawalapitiya SLTB Depot

A 71-year-old father of two has died after collided with a vehicle belonging to the Nawalapitiya SLTB Depot, Nawalapitiya Police said. The deceased has been identified as Sarath Kumara Piyadasa (71), a resident of Penithuduwa, Nawalapitiya. The victim was collided with the vehicle near the Nawalapitiya Anuruddha Primary School. While the driver of the vehicle was fleeing without reporting the accident to the police, officers of the Nawalapitiya Police Traffic Division had chased him and arrested the suspect driver. The suspect was under influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest and succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital, Nawalapitiya Police said.

Minister of State Channa Jayasumana today unveiled in Parliament a list of drugs that were imported at very high prices during the last  government, although they cost very little in the market. He also said that the CID would be informed to conduct an investigation into these purchases.  He also said that the purchase of these drugs was referred to as emergency purchases and that they were purchased at exorbitant prices.  The document tabled by him in Parliament is as follows.

The Health Trade Union Confederation has decided to hold a protest campaign in hospitals and health institutions across the country from 12.00 noon to 1.00 pm today.  Saman Ratnapriya, President of the Government Nurses Association, said that the protest was launched against the cuts in health care allowances and corona control facilities.
