A 71-year-old dead after collided with a vehicle belonging to the Nawalapitiya SLTB Depot

A 71-year-old father of two has died after collided with a vehicle belonging to the Nawalapitiya SLTB Depot, Nawalapitiya Police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sarath Kumara Piyadasa (71), a resident of Penithuduwa, Nawalapitiya.

The victim was collided with the vehicle near the Nawalapitiya Anuruddha Primary School.

While the driver of the vehicle was fleeing without reporting the accident to the police, officers of the Nawalapitiya Police Traffic Division had chased him and arrested the suspect driver.

The suspect was under influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest and succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital, Nawalapitiya Police said.
