The Geneva Commission exerted pressure on Sri Lanka at our request – The Catholic Church

The Catholic Church states that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights influenced Sri Lanka on the Easter Sunday terrorist attack on the opening day of the Geneva Human Rights Conference happened because they raised awareness about it.

This was stated by the Director of Mass Communication and Director of the Catholic Church, Fr. Cyril Gamani Fernando at a media briefing held at the Archbishop’s residence in Colombo.

He also said that he had to go to the Human Rights Commission and the international community because of the lack of confidence that justice and fairness would prevail in the country over the Easter attack.

He also said that if justice and fairness cannot be achieved in the country, citizens have the right to go beyond that.

He said he could have avoided going international if the government had implemented the recommendations of the Presidential Commission on the Easter Sunday attack or initiated it.
