SriLankan Airlines does not own any aircraft and all the 23 aircraft are acquired on tax basis

Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that Mattala International Airport is making a monthly loss of 100 million rupees. He also mentioned in the parliament that the government will consider if an investor wants to invest there.

The Minister said that there has been a decrease in air traffic due to reasons such as the Corona epidemic and the protests spreading across the country. He also said that the Ratmalana and Palali airports have not been fully utilized as planned.

Although several airlines have promised to operate their services to Palali Airport, not a single plane arrives there. Air India also agreed to operate their services but it did not happen. The project launched at Ratmalana Airport with an airline in the Maldives has failed.

The Minister said that SriLankan Airlines has also recorded a loss of US$ 1.2 billion and a cabinet paper has already been submitted for its restructuring.

The Minister also revealed that SriLankan Airlines does not own any aircraft and all the 23 aircraft are acquired on tax basis.
