Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) MP Jagath Kumara has said that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will resign after making a special statement to the nation.
He also stated that the members have been informed about this by now.

Cabinet Spokesman Nalaka Godahewa stated that the resignation of the Prime Minister was the best solution to the current crisis.
He also said that the current cabinet should call for my resignation and the opposition to appoint a new cabinet.
He also said that the resignation of the Prime Minister was considered to be a dissolution of the Cabinet and that the resignation of the Prime Minister was the best solution.
He further said that the Prime Minister will announce his decision today
What will the Prime Minister’s decision be?
A large crowd gathered at the Temple trees today. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa asked those present at Temple Trees whether he should resign or not.
The crowd shouted, “Don’t go!” The Prime Minister then stated that he valued the motherland first, second and third. He said he was ready to make any sacrifice for the people.
He said he did not want to anarchize the country for political gain, adding that the President could decide without hindrance and that no one had the right to betray the aspirations of 69 lakhs of people. However, he did not say whether he would resign.
“It simply came to our notice then. When we said let’s build the country together, we did not agree. Now I propose an all-party government.
The President can decide without hindrance. We are ready to make any sacrifice for the common good. No one can betray the mandate of 69 lakhs.
I’m gonna trust you in politics. I am on the side of the people. We are ready to come to a single decision with you for the future of this country. For me, the first, second and third are the motherland.”
Two protests with opposite ideas at the temple trees
Two protests are currently taking place in front of Temple Trees in Colombo. One protest is being held saying that Mahinda Rajapaksa should not resign from the post of Prime Minister.
It is run by supporters, including local government representatives of the Sri Lanka People’s Front.
The protest, on the other hand, is being led by Maina Gogama protesters demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. They demand that the Prime Minister should resign.
Also, a tense situation has arisen in front of Temple Trees.
The clash has taken place between those who had come to force the Prime Minister not to resign and those who had been calling for the removal of the Prime Minister by calling him Minagogama.
Protest boards in Minagogama were also said to be set on fire.

Meanwhile, a large number of members of the People’s Front have been summoned to the Prime Minister’s Office this morning demanding that the Prime Minister not resign.
It is reported that there is a controversy within the Rajapaksa family regarding the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Most members of the Rajapaksa family are pressuring Mahinda Rajapaksa not to resign.
It is learned that the President is being severely criticized within the Rajapaksa family for removing the Prime Minister from office.
