Decathlon stops retail operations in Sri Lanka due to dollar shortage

Decathlon, the world’s largest retailer of sporting goods, has announced that it will cease its retail operations in Sri Lanka from October 30, 2022.

The company states that the sales activities conducted at its showroom in Battaramulla and through the internet will be suspended accordingly. Earlier, they had also taken steps to close the showroom at Union Place from last July 31.

They say that they are unable to supply their products due to the current situation in the country. In the face of the ongoing dollar crisis, last August, measures were taken to ban the importation of more than 300 types of goods to Sri Lanka.

However, Decathlon further states that it will continue to maintain its production activities in Sri Lanka. France-based Decathlon currently operates 1,747 showrooms in 60 countries.
