About 45% of the hotels booked by the tourists to visit the country have been cancelled.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Authority states that this step has been taken due to the ongoing protests in the country.

Fuel, gas and electricity crises have also been another major reason for the decline in tourist arrivals.

The authority claims that this situation will have a very negative effect on the tourism industry in this country.
