Earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra this morning

The Meteorological Department says that there is no risk of a tsunami in Sri Lanka due to the earthquake that struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra this morning (14).

 Its National Tsunami Warning Center announced that normal life in coastal areas was safe.

The Meteorological Department said that the announcement will be made in collaboration with national and international agencies.

 At 6.39am a magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
