Ships carrying fuel will arrive in the island from today within the next week.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says that 5 ships carrying fuel will arrive in the island from today (20) within the next week.

Its chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said that ships bring diesel, petrol and aviation fuel to Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, there are sufficient stocks of fuel in the country, he said.

The Chairman said that he was also ready to provide the required stocks of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board.

But he said the board would have to pay him in rupees or so. Meanwhile, daily fuel demand has risen sharply. The Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation stated that the average daily fuel demand in the country is 6,000 metric tons.

But yesterday, he said, demand had risen to 9,000 metric tons.
