Health officials say there is a risk of the South African new covid strain, Nyokov or BA.2 virus, entering the country in the future. If it spreads, everyone should be prepared to prevent infection, Deputy Director General of Health, Dr. Susie Perera.

This variety is now spreading to South African and Middle Eastern countries as well as European countries.

 Health officials say this puts people at high risk for death.
