Gregory Lake emptied

During the cold December months, the beautiful Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya is usually overflowing with local and foreign tourists.

Many tourists do not forget to take a boat ride on Lake Gregory.

However, Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya, which was devastated by the recent covid pandemic, and the surrounding area are currently experiencing an increase in tourist arrivals.

Members of tourist boat associations have alleged that the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council had taken steps to drain Lake Gregory during such a period.

They say that the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council has taken steps to drain the tank from the 22nd of this month, saying that a walkway will be constructed on the bank of the Gregory Lake which is controlled by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and that the Gregory Lake will be developed.

They further stated that due to the development work being carried out these days, it has become impossible for local and foreign tourists visiting Nuwara Eliya to visit the Gregory Lake premises and the development work being carried out by the Municipal Council should be carried out after the end of the Christmas season.
