Cauliflower Rs 2000, Broccoli Rs 3000, Lettuce Rs 800, the Tourist hotel industry in trouble.

Hoteliers say that cauliflower, broccoli and lettuce, which are available to tourists visiting foreign hotels, are now selling at the highest prices in history.

Hoteliers say that cauliflower and broccoli grown in greenhouses in Nuwara Eliya are grown using chemical fertilizers and agrochemicals.

Because of that a kilo of cauliflower, which is sold only in supermarkets, costs Rs. 1500-2000, a kilo of broccoli Rs. 2500-3000 and a kilo of lettuce Rs. 800.

At the same time, the hotel owners said that there was a problem in maintaining their industry due to the increase in the prices of many upcountry vegetables required to prepare Chinese food that is popular among foreign tourists.

Hoteliers in and around Nuwara Eliya and Castlereagh said that a large number of foreign tourists visit the island in December and that a large number of such tourists have booked rooms in their hotels.
