The petition against Cabraal’s appointment is dismissed

Former Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal’s appointment as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has been ordered to be quashed by the Court of Appeal.

The order was made by a bench of Justices of the Court of Appeal comprising Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.

At the time of considering the petition, the Attorney General had objected that the appointment of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the Governor of the Central Bank had been made by the President and that a write order could not be issued challenging his appointment under Article 35 of the Constitution.

In addition, the Attorney General made several other initial objections.
