There is a possibility to spread Delta plus variant which is more dangerous than the other variants

Health officials say a new variant of coronavirus called Delta +, which is rapidly expanding as a variant of the covid-19 Delta, is emerging around the world.

The Delta Plus sub variety has now been reported in a high percentage of vaccinated countries. Delta Plus has also been reported to be a more rapidly spreading complication with more covid subtypes.

So far, Delta Plus variants have been seen in 27 countries, said Dr Ranjith Batuwantudawa, Director of the Health Promotion Bureau.

He further says that as Sri Lanka is currently vaccinating a large percentage of the population, there is a risk of the Delta Plus variant spreading to Sri Lanka if people do not follow health guidelines.

Dr Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said that people should be more careful to avoid the Delta Plus Covid subtype as society shows that they are violating the existing health guidelines. The doctor added that further research is being done to determine whether the covid vaccine responds well to the Delta Plus subtype.
