Even if the rejected fertiliser ship is brought back Sri Lanka is not allowing fertilizers to take inside the country – Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture

Udith Jayasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture says that if the nano nitrogen liquid imported to Sri Lanka from India is taken as a product, no one can say that it is a chemical toxin.

But he said he was not opposed to it, adding that it could also be said to be inorganic because it has no living organism.

But the truth is that this is a special fertilizer and instead of a 50 kg bag of urea, 500 ml of this liquid is enough, he said.

He also said that it has been decided to allow the importation of the required quantities of approved herbicides for weed control in crops and although there were reports that the fertilizer ship, which was rejected due to the presence of harmful bacteria, would return to Sri Lanka, he could not stop the shipping at sea.

He further stated that even if the fertilizer is brought back, it will not be possible to land in the country and the landing will not be able to be taken into the country.

He said these while participating in a program with Derana Tv
