We request government only to close for one week but the government closed the country for five weeks- Saman Rathnapriya

The Government Nurses’ Association states that the government closed the country for five weeks despite their request to close it for a week.

Its chairman Saman Ratnapriya says his union did not expect the country to close for so long.

He points out that such a long-term closure of the country will lead to the collapse of the economy and the further collapse of the living standards of the people who earn their living.

He further stated that the question has arisen as to whether the restrictions imposed on the reopening of the country are correct.

He made these comments at a media briefing held in Colombo. Meanwhile, due to the failure of the authorities to respond to the problems of health professionals, an unannounced strike will be called in the next few days, he said.
