State Minister of Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal has decided to resign from his post

State Minister of Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal has decided to resign from his post as a Member of Parliament.

Accordingly, his resignation letter is due to be sent to the Secretary General of Parliament next Monday.

Thereafter he is to be appointed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. It is reported that he will be appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank with the powers of a Cabinet Minister.

Mr. Cabraal has previously served as the Governor of the Central Bank for more than eight years.
