Delta variant will spead rapidly in Sri Lanka in next two weeks- Professor Malik Peiris

One of the world’s leading health scientists, Professor Malik Peiris warns that the Delta variant is likely to spread rapidly in Sri Lanka in the next two weeks.

More delta infections are likely to be reported in the coming week and the next two weeks will be crucial for Sri Lanka as the Delta variant is already found in many places, he added.

He warns that as only a small number of people in the country have been vaccinated the situation could worsen if the virus spreads across the country.

He further said that the situation in the country was not good in the background where the travel restrictions had been lifted and that there was a risk of more infections in the next two weeks.
