Six suspects were arrested with a three-wheeler on suspicion of stealing the Rs.5000 relief packages in Bogawantalawa, Police OIC Chief Inspector Shantha Bandara said.
Bogawantalawa was isolated due to the presence of a large number of infected people with the covid 19 virus.
The Grama Niladhari in charge of the Bogawantalawa Division distributed 376 relief bags to the people of the area on the 27th and placed the remaining 23 parcels in the fertilizer storage at the Bridwell Estate in the Bogawantalawa Police Division and deployed an estate worker to guard the warehouse.
Five state workers along with the security guard of the store were arrested for stealing and transporting the relief pack.
