There was no agreement with the Government to import vehicles under qoutas : VIASL & VIAL

Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) and the Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka (VIAL) condemed the media reports circulating on social media and news websites the Vehicleclaiming that the government and vehicle importers have reached an agreement to reimport vehicles under a specific quota. Both the associations issued a joint announcement denying the media reports today.

According to VIASL President S.K. Gamage states that there was a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat today with the with President’s Secretary P.B. jayasundara but there wasn’t any discussion about a quota system to resume vehicle imports.

Mr. Gamage further said that considering the current economic situation in the country they had never thought of appealing to the Government to grant a permissions for importing vehicles.
