An attack to Gotagogama

It is reported that the Gotagogama branch established in Embilipitiya has been attacked.  The attack took place last night. This branch has been established for a few weeks now as a Gotagoma sub-branch of the Colombo Galle face.

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka-Arrest operations of the protesters who forcibly jumped to the National Television started

During the protest held on the last 13th, the police headquarters has been instructed to file a case against the two activists who forcibly entered the national television and joined a live program there. The prosecution is to be done on the advice received from the Attorney General’s Department. Accordingly, the police are currently monitoring the relevant video footage to arrest the people who forcibly entered the premises of the television corporation.

Dhammika Perera has decided to resign from all the Parliament positions

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s National List Member Dhammika Perera has decided to resign from that position. After Mr Basil Rajapaksa resigned from the position of Member of Parliament, Mr Dhammika Perera was appointed in his place recently and then he was also appointed as the Investment Promotion Minister. But after former President Gotabhaya left the country, Mr Dhammika Perera resigned from the post of minister. While holding the position of minister, he publicly accused the then Prime Minister Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe and said that Mr. Wickremesinghe should resign from the post of Prime Minister.

Political Crisis in Sri Lanka-Singapore informs Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksha to leave Singapore

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is currently staying in Singapore, has been informed to leave the country within 15 days.  Foreign media reports that Singapore is currently facing a problem in providing security to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The former president had planned to leave Singapore for a Middle Eastern country, but it hasn’t happened yet. The next destination of Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not been confirmed yet.

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka- Electricity bill will increase by 69 % since August

Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said that the electricity tariffs will be increased from the beginning of next month (August) and the existing electricity tariff is likely to increase by about 69% accordingly. At a press conference held yesterday (19) in Colombo, Mr. Ratnayake stated that even though the Electricity Board demanded a 130 % bill increase, it will be implemented in a manner that is as fair as possible by providing concessions to the lowest electricity consumers. He also mentioned that the time given to the public to submit proposals regarding the increase in fees has ended and a review will be conducted on the 28th of this month at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, focusing on 150 proposals.

Fuel Crisis in Sri Lanka-Only 3600 buses on service today- Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association

Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association says that the private bus service has been disrupted even today. Its chairman Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne stated that the release of fuel for his buses has not been done properly so far. He also stated that there was a special discussion on providing fuel for private buses yesterday. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board announced that more than 3600 buses have been put into operation today. Trains will run as per the normal schedule today.

Acceptance of foreign mail items has resumed in Sri Lanka- postal department

The postal department says that the acceptance of foreign postal items, which had been suspended for several countries, will resume from today (20).  Postmaster General Mr Ranjith Ariyaratne mentioned that Israel will start accepting postal items for the Netherlands and America accordingly. The foreign postal fee is also going to be increased from the 1st of next month.

The economic crisis in Sri Lanka-5 lakh gas cylinders have been distributed so far – Litro Company

Litro Company says that 5 lack gas cylinders have been distributed so far. Its chairman, Mr. Muditha Peiris, mentioned that it is planned to distribute 60,000 gas cylinders to areas outside Colombo today. Sri Lanka faces a huge shortage of cooking gas since the economic crisis hits the country. The public had to wait in queues for days to buy a gas cylinder. Meanwhile, the gas companies took action to increase the gas price within a short period.
