A stock of drugs mixed with marijuana was found in Bhagwantalawa

Chief Inspector Shantha Bandara said that four suspects were arrested in the afternoon of (06) on suspicion of 6 kg of 800 grams of the drug mixed with marijuana, which was illegally imported into Sri Lanka from a foreign country. It has been identified that the drug stock was packed for sale and the four arrested suspects are residents of the Bagavantalawa area. The police station commander said that based on the information received by the police, they were able to find this stock of drugs while checking the houses of the four suspects and the shops in Bagwantalawa town. Also, the four arrested suspects will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court, and the value of the stock of drugs seized by the police has not yet been assessed, said the Bagwantalawa Police Station Commander.

In the middle of the Cina-Taiwan conflict, a dead body of an officer of the Research and Development Unit of the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan has been found. O Yang Li-hing, deputy head of Taiwan’s Defense Ministry’s National Chung-shan Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in Pingtung City on Saturday morning, the Central News Agency (CNA) reported. He is also known as the Taiwan Missile Development Officer. Ou Yang, 57, died of a heart attack, officials said. His family also said that he had heart problems. The CNA said Oh Yang had gone to Pingtung City on business. He was reportedly supervising several missile manufacturing projects. At the beginning of 2022, he took over as the deputy head of the project. His death comes as China continues military exercises near Taiwan. China is said to be holding military exercises from August 3, angered by US Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka-China’s Exim Bank suspends a loan to Sri Lanka

China’s Exim Bank has suspended a US$51 million loan required for the construction of the first phase of the Central Expressway. Due to the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the release of money from China’s Exim Bank has been suspended and due to this, the government has faced a crisis regarding the project. The fact that Sri Lanka has decided to suspend the repayment of foreign debt has also influenced China’s decision. Around 500 Chinese nationals who worked on the 37 km project between Kadawatha and Mirigama have started leaving and as a result around 2000 jobs of residents have been put at risk. Construction of the project began in September 2020 and is targeted for completion by the end of 2024. So far, about 32 per cent of the project has been completed with about 33 billion rupees from the Sri Lankan government.
