Asia’s Biggest Gem” will not be sold.. Left without buyers for six months… it will have to be brought back to Sri Lanka Soon

It has been six months since the gemstone found in Ratnapura area, claimed to be the biggest gem in Asia, was taken to Switzerland for sale.  The Gems and Jewelery Authority states that it has not been able to sell it so far. The chairman of the authority told the media that the value of this gem will exceed 2000 crore rupees. Under the Gems and Jewelery Act, a gem taken in this way should be brought back to this country within a period of three months, but the corporation has extended it to keep it in Switzerland.

Chinese State Minister Chang Yi has announced that China has decided to completely abandon interest-free loans given to 17 African countries.  The Chinese State Minister has announced this decision by connecting to the 8th Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum held in Senegal recently.  He has also explained that this decision was taken to strengthen friendship and cooperation for a new era of common development between China and Africa. He also pointed out that all the promises made by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Dakar, Senegal in November 2021 have been fulfilled. He also mentioned that more than 3 billion of the promised 10 billion dollars in credit facilities have been given to African finance and institutions and nearly 2.5 billion dollars have been given to priority programs in Africa.  Lanka c news

Another discussion between the Sri Lankan President and IMF representatives

Another discussion will be held next Wednesday between the representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and high-ranking representatives of Sri Lanka. That is with the aim of finding solutions to the country’s financial crisis  A discussion between representatives of the International Monetary Fund and Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe was held yesterday (26) through Zoom technology. According to the request made by the representatives of the International Monetary Fund to provide additional information necessary for these discussions regarding the Electricity Amendment, Excise Act and the Treasury, it has been agreed to provide the relevant information next Monday.  Financial advisers and legal advisers of the International Monetary Fund have joined this discussion.  International attention has been paid to the operations of Yuan Wang 05 in China again.  The Hindustan Times had reported today that the Chinese satellite and ballistic missile tracking ship Yuan Wang 5, which left Hambantota port on August 22, was currently mapping the ocean floor 400 nautical miles south-southeast of Deundara Point on the southern tip of Sri Lanka. After leaving Sri Lanka, the Chinese hi-tech ship was scheduled to sail to Jiangyin Port in Shanghai, China. A statement from the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in India about the Chinese ship

Mr Milinda Moragoda, Sri Lankan High Commissioner of India, says that there is no doubt that the incident of a Chinese ship anchoring at Hambantota port was a problem between India and Sri Lanka. He said that we are facing the problem of how to build a framework to avoid such problems in the future and to prevent breaches of trust through such problems. Mr Milinda Moragoda said this while speaking to The Hindu newspaper The Sri Lanka High Commissioner has said this a few days after the Chinese ship Yuan Wang Five, which can track satellites and missiles, left Hambantota port.  Mr Milinda Moragoda said that the Government of India has been informed about this controversy.

According to UNICEF, Sri Lanka ranks 6th in the world in terms of child malnutrition. The south Asia Regional Director Mr George Lareya Adjei says that the economic crisis in Sri Lanka has had a severe impact on children suffering from poverty. Mr George Lareya Adjei, South Asia Regional Director of UNICEF, who is visiting Sri Lanka, says that one out of three children in Sri Lanka is currently in need of some urgent assistance. He mentioned that due to the current crisis situation, children’s going to school has been hampered and they have lost the delicious and fresh food that they had before the crisis. The South Asia Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund said that families are skipping their daily meals due to lack of ability to buy food. It was stated that children in this country go to bed hungry not knowing how they will get their next meal.

Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka-The generator that was stopped in Norochchole Power Plant is back on the national system

The first generator of the Norochchole power plant, which was inactive, has been reconnected to the national system after repairs.  The Ceylon Electricity Board stated that, accordingly, a capacity of 600 MW will be added to the national system from the Norochchole power plant. However, the Electricity Board mentioned that the repair work of the second generator of the plant is still going on. At present, 50% of the daily electricity generation is generated by hydropower.  Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) has informed the General Manager of the Electricity Board to inform about the possibility of reducing the daily power cuts due to the reconnection of the first generator that was disabled in Norochchole to the system.  However, electricity will be cut for 3 hours on the island today as well.
