Lightning strike kills 11 people while taking selfies

Around 11 individuals were killed and many others were injured by a lightning strike in the northern city of Jaipur, India yesterday. According to the report they were taking selfies on the top of a watchtower at 12th Century Amer Fort which is a popular tourist attraction while it is heavily raining. Also, 27 people were on the tower when the incident happened – and some of them reportedly jumped to the ground. Police said that most of the people among the dead were young. The state’s chief minister has announced to offer 500,000 rupees ($6,700; £4,800) as compensation for the families of those who have died. According to the reports, Lightning strikes had killed around 2,000 Indians since 2004.
