Sri Lanka has become one of the five most difficult countries in the world to obtain essential food items, Sri Lanka People’s Front MP Chandima Wirakkodi said. He said that the country was currently in a severe economic crisis and that during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime. Bogawantalawa Police have arrested five suspects who were transporting liquor without a license

Bogawantalawa Police have arrested five suspects who were transporting liquor without a license to sell at high prices in estate areas during the curfew. A raid was carried out on information received by the Bogawantalawa Police Intelligence Unit that the suspects will be loaded into vehicles and transported bottles of liquor from liquor shops in Bogawantalawa town with the announcement that the curfew will be imposed. At the time of arresting the suspects, they had seized 124 bottles of liquor and 48 cans of beer approved by the government. Bogawantalawa police have arrested the suspects and the stock of liquor bottles.

Covid 19 current situation in Sri Lanka-Oxygen Cyliner sold for 1.5 lacks in black market

It has been reported that a cylinder containing 47 kilograms of oxygen will be sold for Rs. 1.5 lacks for patients who need oxygen. The National Drug Regulatory Authority states that such sales are illegal and that legal action will be taken against them. At present such cylinders are priced at Rs. 80,000 only for licensed companies in the country. However, there are reports that corona infected people are in this trade illegally on social media due to the increasing need for oxygen. The authority states that there is no legal permit in the country to sell oxygen to anyone who is not registered.

Media Minister Dalas Alahapperuma says that a solution to corona control should be found through scientific methods. The Minister also said that drinking honey or putting pots in rivers will not solve the problem of the corona. The Minister said that the curfew will end by the 30th and the support of the people is needed to complete the vaccination in the country. He  said this while he was addressing the media in Matara.

Minister of State Ajith Nivard Cabraal says that all the people should work together to shorten the lockdown period in the country. He said that it was as important to the people as it was to the country’s economy development and that the country would not be able to move forward if the closure was not shortened now. He further noted that the loss to macroeconomic factors as well as the lives of the people due to the lockdown of the country is not insignificant. He points out that if the country’s income is lost due to the closure of the country, the debt cannot be repaid on time and , he questions although it is easy for those who earn a monthly salary and have money in bank deposits to face the lockdown the country how the four and a half million people who make a living on a daily basis face this lock down. He said this while he was speaking at a media briefing in Colombo. 

Sri Lanka reported 198 covid 19 related deaths

Another 198 corona deaths are confirmed by the Director General of Health. It is the highest number of deaths ever recorded in a single day. At the same time the number of corona deaths in the country rises to 7183.

84 out of 88 samples were confirmed as delta varient ,A new corona mutant variety is about to emerge from Sri Lanka

Genetic analysis of corona samples from corona infected people in various parts of the country, including Colombo, has confirmed84 out of 88 people as infected with the Delta strain. Dr. Chandima Jeewandara of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura said that the number of infected people with the data type identified in Sri Lanka so far is 201. He said that most of the Delta infected people were identified from the Colombo area and also from Kandy, Matale, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Vavuniya, Malabe and Gampaha areas. He further said that they had identified three other mutations in the Delta virus found in Sri Lanka and suspects it could be the main reason for the virus to spread so fast. He added that this situation could lead to the development of a new corona variety in the country in the future.
