Exam dates for the year 2021 have been announced.

Grade 5, Advanced Level and Ordinary Level students who are scheduled to sit for the examinations have been given sufficient time to complete their studies after the opening of the schools and those dates have been announced. Accordingly, the Minister of Education has submitted a revised timetable for the examinations to be held in the year 2021 to the Cabinet and it has been approved. The exam schedule is given below. * Grade 5 Scholarship Examination – will be held on Saturday 22nd January 2022. * The GCE Advanced Level Examination will be held from Monday 7th February to Saturday 5th March 2022. * The GCE Ordinary Level Examination for Education will be held from Monday 23rd May 2022 to Wednesday 01st June 2022.

HEROIC GESTURE BY DESHAMANYA LALITH KOTALAWAELA; SANCTIONS THE REILEF TO DEPOSITERS OF TROUBLED F&G GROUP OF COMPANIES

Today the drama of troubled F& G companies namely F&G RECL and F&G PDL reached a new milestone when Chairman Deshamanya Lalith Kotalawalea and Deputy Chairman Mr. Mervin Jayasinghe consented to the supreme court order and sanctioned the relief to the depositors of both companies. As reveled in this web site earlier depositors were in dilemma with regards to the outcome of the share holders meeting which was scheduled on 2 nd November 2021 deciding their fate. Supreme court assisted by central bank central bank formulated a proposal to settle the depositors with a Rs 500 million cash influx from a private sector investment and the investment agreement was signed with the investor on 30 th April 2021. The process took an ugly turn when some of the share holders took a position to delay and default the settlement to depositors deliberately. However the depositors can heave a sigh of relief when the Chairman and the deputy Chairman has approved their cause in writing well before the meeting and it’s expected that other share holders will toe the line at the meeting on 2 nd November.

Taliban leader hold meeting in public

   Taliban leader Mulla Hibertullah Akundzadah has attended a public meeting for the first time. Foreign media reports that he has participated in a ceremony held yesterday (30) with the participation of his supporters in the city of Kandahar in Afghanistan. Akundzada, who has been a leader of the Taliban since 2016, has not attended a public meeting since Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. There were also reports that Hibertullah Akundzada had died as a result of not appearing in public.

Shakib Al Hasan will miss the rest of the World Cup matches

 Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been stepped out due to a foot injury. According to international media reports, he will miss the remaining two matches of the Twenty20 World Cup. They are scheduled to play against South Africa tomorrow (02) and the final in Bangladesh will be against Australia on November 4. Shakib was injured while defending in the recent match against West Indies.

What happened to the Chinese ship carrying organic fertiliser?

Harbor Master Captain Nirmal de Silva says that no definite information has been revealed so far regarding the reports that the ship carrying the Chinese manure has entered Sri Lankan waters. The ship had entered Sri Lankan waters, according to naval data on the Filitmoan website. They had pointed out that the ship ‘Hippo Spirit’ had entered the Hambantota sea border with the identification number of the ship ‘Sayo Xflore’.However, it was not immediately clear from which port the ship arrived. Harbor Master Captain Nirmal de Silva stated that Any ship can cross the Sri Lankan territorial waters. However, the harbormaster stated that the ship would not be accepted at the Sri Lankan port. He further stated that the port authorities have paid special attention to this controversial ship. Meanwhile, according to the latest data, it has been confirmed that the ship “Hippo Spirit” which arrived in the waters off Malacca on the 13th had sailed directly to Sri Lanka.

Two trains collide in Sri Lanka

 It is reported that two trains have collided with each other between Ragama and Peralanda railway stations. The train control room says it was a minor accident and no one is injured.

New covid clusters are emerging from several schools in Anuradhapura

It is reported that most of the students and teachers in the primary schools in the Anuradhapura district are infected with the covid 19 virus. Epidemiologist Dr R.M.S. B. Ratnayake stated that an exceeding in the situation can be expected in the future. He further stated that covid patients are mostly reported from areas like Anuradhapura Municipal Council, Galenbindunuwewa, Padaviya, Thalawa and Kahatagasdigiliya. Mr B. Ratnayake further stated that students and teachers of primary schools in Horawpathana, Padaviya and Thalawa have been quarantined. “We have so far identified six school children as infected. Three teachers have been infected in the last four to five days. Primary school children in grades 2 and 3 who go to school have been affected so far. 40 school children have been quarantined in the Anuradhapura district. We urge the people of the country to restrict travel as much as possible. ” he said Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin says that the government’s decision to reopen schools without consulting teachers and principals is very wrong. He points out that after the commencement of grades 1-5, the education authorities have taken steps to start grades 10 to 13 on the 8th. This is a serious situation and Joseph Stalin is urging the authorities to reconsider.

A six-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning while playing in the yard

Anamaduwa Police say that a six-year-old boy who was in a critical condition after being struck by lightning while playing in the yard despite the inclement weather has died at the hospital. The deceased has been identified as Diyagu Arachchilage Idusara Sanjeewa (6), a resident of Ihala Mahawewa, Mahawewa, Chilaw. The child and his family were residents of Ihala Mahawewa but they had recently bought land in Uriyawa village in Anamaduwa to cultivate. It was raining heavily in the area from time to time and the parents of the child were staying in a small hut in the area at the time. This child fell unconscious due to an explosion of lightning while playing in the yard with another child while it was raining then was taken to the Anamaduwa Base Hospital, police said. Later when the child was admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital and  He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Sri Lanka is ready to pay for the imported the stock of fertilizer from China- Ajith Nivard Cabraal

The Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal has stated that the payment will be made if the documents are completed for the letter of credit opened to the Chinese company that imported the stock of fertilizer. He added that since international trade transactions are carried out by international standards, the transaction will take place if the documents are complete. Mr. Cabraal said that the People’s Banks is ready to act accordingly and that the non-payment was not due to a fault of the People’s Bank but due to a ban imposed by law and that the People’s Bank had nothing to do with the conflict. He added that the letter of credit owed the US $ 9 million and that discussions were ongoing at the diplomatic level to resolve the issue.

Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy states that he would like to extend his heartfelt congratulations to State Minister Shehan Semasinghe on his appointment as the next Minister of Energy. Mr Gammanpila also said that he was responsible for making a truthful statement regarding the government. Responding to Minister Gammanpila’s statement that the present government is one of the most corrupt in history, Minister Gammanpila said this when inquired about the statement made by Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe. Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe stated in Kahatagasdigiliya that the government should leave the government without holding any ministerial posts and why the present government is corrupt after the other government parties held a public meeting in Colombo.
