A gold plate belonging to the historical Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya has been stolen

It is reported that a gold plate belonging to the historical Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya has been stolen.

A special police team from the Colombo Crimes Division has gone to Kataragama to launch a special investigation into the incident, a senior police official said.

The gold plate, which weighs about 38 pounds, was donated by a devotee to the shrine in 2019, the official said. The senior officer said that a complaint had been lodged with the police regarding the theft of the gold plate about two weeks ago.
