Court order on Chinese fertilizer

The Colombo Commercial High Court has ordered the People’s Bank to extend its enjoining order on the 19th of this month to prevent the payment to a Chinese company and its local agent for allegedly importing fertilizer containing bacteria and other harmful organisms into the country. The order was issued by Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi after reconsidering a petition filed by the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company today (09). When the case was taken up, the lawyers representing the respondent Chinese Fertilizer Company stated that they had opened the letters of credit of the People’s Bank by submitting legal standards reports. However, the lawyers pointed out that the suspension of payment was an illegal act and asked for a date to file objections to the case. Accordingly, the court directed the lawyers of the respondent party to take steps to present any objections related to the case at a later date.

Brenton Tarrant has said he will be forced to plead guilty and will therefore appeal against the sentence handed down to him by the court. On March 15, 2019, Tarantino stormed two mosques, killing 51 worshipers and injuring 40 others. It was cited as the worst mass shooting ever recorded in New Zealand. Tarrant was jailed for life last year after the trial and will not be pardoned. It is the first time in New Zealand history that an accused has been jailed for life. Tarrant told his lawyer, Tony Ellis, that he had admitted to treating him “inhumanely and very lowly” before the trial began.

The state of Uttar Pradesh in India is the most populous state in the country. So far, 89 people have been diagnosed with the Sika virus in one district of the state. Among them were 17 children. The first case of the virus in India was reported in 2017 in the state of Gujarat. Mosquito-borne diseases are contracted by pregnant mothers, causing the brain of newborns to contract and develop a rare condition called Guillain-Barre syndrome, which weakens the immune system. The virus has been identified as sexually transmitted. This is the first case of the virus in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The first case of the disease was reported in Kanpur on October 23.

What is China getting ready for by building replicas of American warships?

According to foreign media reports, satellite imagery has revealed that China is building replicas of American warships. A full-scale replica of an American aircraft carrier is reportedly being set up in a desert area in northwest China’s Xinjiang region. The U.S. Institute of Satellite Technology has revealed that the area is being used for ongoing ballistic missile tests. Experts say they have created replicas of US warships in training to attack them.

The country will face a food shortage in the future – Basil Rajapaksa

Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance has stated that only one third of the lands cultivated during the Maha season have been prepared for cultivation. He has pointed this out at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during a discussion on the fertilizer crisis.  Currently, paddy and other crops have been successfully prepared only in the Kurunegala and North Eastern districts and the Minister of Finance has pointed out with statistics. If the situation continues like this, the country will face a food shortage in the future, said Basil Rajapaksa.

The selling price of a gas cylinder in the market is in the range of Rs. 2500-3500

Due to the shortage of gas, traders are selling gas at various prices in the range of Rs. 2500-3500. Despite being sold at different prices, consumers are facing severe difficulties to obtain gas. Theshara Jayasinghe, chairman of Litro Gas, said the shortage would end in about a week as a ship carrying gas arrived. He also stated that 80,000 gas cylinders are released to the market daily.

Chinese fertilizer ship reaches Beruwala waters

The ship “HIPPO SPIRIT” carrying a consignment of Chinese organic fertilizer which was rejected due to the presence of harmful bacteria is currently anchored at the Kalutara-Beruwala sea border, the Marine Traffic website reports that. Harbor Master Captain Nirmal de Silva,  stated that he had not been informed that the ship was coming to the Port of Colombo. He added that although the ship could reach the port of Colombo to obtain the required supplies, there was no room for the consignment of organic fertilizer to land at the port. Meanwhile, Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara says that such a crisis has arisen about the rejected Chinese organic fertilizer due to a problem that arose during the preparation of the agreement.

The US opens airport for foreign tourists

The United States has decided to open its borders to foreign tourists from today (08) easing strict travel restrictions. Authorities say they expect a large influx of tourists into the country. One and a half years later, the US border was opened to foreign tourists. Accordingly, the travel ban imposed on fully vaccinated tourists from 33 countries, including the United Kingdom, China, India, South Africa, Iran, Brazil and European countries, will be lifted. Formula 1- Max Verstappen leads Mexico City to victory over Lewis Hamilton

Mexico City GP Red Bull player Max Verstappen secured his first world title with a landslide victory in the Mexico City Grand Prix.  Verstappen’s rival Lewis Hamilton finished second, while the Mercedes driver avoided accusations from Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez in the final round. Perez was on Hamilton’s tail in the final but could not pass. Verstappen’s ninth win in 2021 gives them a 19 – point lead with four games and a total of 107 points.
