A written petition has been filed in the Court of Appeal seeking an order suspending the implementation of the timetable issued by the Commissioner-General of Examinations for the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
The petition has been filed by the Secretary of the Transparent Front Nagananda Kodithuwakku.
The 2021 GCE Advanced Level Examination is scheduled to begin on February 7.
The petitioner alleges that schools across the country were closed for a considerable period due to the covid epidemic, which caused a great loss to the education of the students.
He points out that even the syllabus could not be completed properly.
Due to this, the Ministry of Education and the Secretary to the Ministry of Education have rejected the recommendation given to the government by the National Institute of Education that students should be given 20 weeks before the GCE Advanced Level Examination, said Nagananda Kodithuwakku.
He further requested the court to issue an order to the Minister of Education and the Secretary to the Ministry to give students 20 weeks prior to the relevant examination.
