Three people in the same family jump to the train and suicide to avoid debt cases

 Watawala Police said that a father, mother and son of the same family were killed when they were hit by a data make train travelling from Badulla to Colombo yesterday.

The three were aged 70, 65 and 40. The three had collided with a train near the 103 mileposts between Rosella and Watawala railway stations at around 11.45 am yesterday (08). The victims have been identified as residents of the Samimale area in Maskeliya.

An employee of the Rosella Railway Station said that the three had walked towards the Watawala Railway Station from the Rosella Railway Station after inquiring about the running hours of the train. It has been revealed that the three victims had jumped on the train with the intention of suiciding.

One of the victims was identified as Shantha Kumar Raj, 40, a resident of the Maskeliya Samimale area who had been engaged in the spice trade. There have been several police complaints against him regarding money laundering Meanwhile, he was stuck in a troubled economy because had married four times, get divorced from time to time and had to pay maintenance. It was said that these people were stuck in cases and could have been jailed shortly.

In the meantime, he had moved out of the house with his father and mother to escape debtors and had been living in another rented house for some time. It is believed that he may have committed suicide where there was no escape.

 The bodies of the three victims were taken to the Nawalapitiya Railway Station by the same train and handed over to the security forces.
