Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that he had officially informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit to monitor the LPL tournament so that it could not be misused.

This was stated by the Minister of Sports about inquiry with the rumour circulating that there may be some impossibility in the selection of players for the tournament and the possibility of match-fixing behind it.

The Minister of Sports has emphasized that steps have been taken to provide the necessary transparency and supervision so that the tournament cannot be misused.

Also, Mahela Jayawardene has been entrusted with the task of restructuring the cricket team in this tournament.

Accordingly, the Minister of Sports further stated that instructions have been given on the composition to be maintained in the training section.

The Minister has stated that it is possible to appoint a foreign coach as the head coach of the team at the discretion of the team ownership and that all other assistant coaches should be deployed from Sri Lanka.

The Minister of Sports has further stated to the Aruna newspaper that while the LPL tournament is an opportunity for the young players in the country, his aim is to make it a brand that attracts foreign exchange and promotes tourism in the country.
