Around 17,629 pornographic video clips and photos related to children have been uploaded to the internet using laptops, desktops, phones, and tabs in Sri Lanka, between 17th June and 28th July 2021, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Police had established a special unit at the Police Children and Women Bureau to monitor pornographic material related to children and it has been named the “National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children”.
The unit will monitore various social media platforms. Also, they will use modern technology to trace suspects posting pornographic content related to children on the internet andpeople who have shared or forwarded such content to various parties, he further said.
Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects have been identified and a special police team has been deployed today to trace and apprehend the suspects.
