A special court in the eastern city of Lahore in Pakistan has sentenced two men to death for a rape which triggered public attention with a comments by a policeman, who questioning women going out in the late night. The court convicted Abid Mehli and Shafqat Ali of gang rape, kidnapping, robbery and terrorism offences yesterday ( March 20)
A Pakistani-French woman and her two children stranded on a motorway in their car which had run out of petrol on the road near Lahore. Abid Malhi and Shafqat Ali Bagga came across the two suspects were broke in to car and robbed them and raped the woman in front of her children.
Later comments by a policeman, who questioned why the woman had been out late on her own led to series protests around the country.
