Surface inflation, measured by the annual point change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CPI, 2013=100), increased from 54.6%  in June 2022 to 60.8 % in July 2022.

This increase in annual point inflation was due to monthly increases in the prices of items in both food and non-food categories.

 Accordingly, the annual point inflation in the food category rose to 90.9 % in July 2022 from 80.1 % in June 2022.

Also, Annual point inflation in the non-food category rose to 46.5 % in July 2022 from 42.4 % in June 2022.
