Representatives of two Russian state-owned companies have come to this country and left after negotiating to supply fuel to Sri Lanka from Russia.
Former minister Wimal Weerawansa, the leader of the National Freedom Front, said that the Russian company had prepared and signed memorandums of understanding for Sri Lanka.
He also mentioned that the company has been informed that the company is ready to lend $300 million worth of crude oil monthly if the Sri Lankan side agrees to this.
The MP said that the money for this fuel should be paid for one year after the loan relief period and that the fuel will be provided at a lower price than the current price in the world market.
However, the MP also mentioned that the officials of the legal department of the oil corporation have informed the Russian proposal that the relevant transactions cannot be carried out regardless of the legality of this company.
