According to UNICEF, Sri Lanka ranks 6th in the world in terms of child malnutrition.
The south Asia Regional Director Mr George Lareya Adjei says that the economic crisis in Sri Lanka has had a severe impact on children suffering from poverty.
Mr George Lareya Adjei, South Asia Regional Director of UNICEF, who is visiting Sri Lanka, says that one out of three children in Sri Lanka is currently in need of some urgent assistance.
He mentioned that due to the current crisis situation, children’s going to school has been hampered and they have lost the delicious and fresh food that they had before the crisis. The South Asia Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund said that families are skipping their daily meals due to lack of ability to buy food.
It was stated that children in this country go to bed hungry not knowing how they will get their next meal.
