United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has congratulated President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

In issuing a special congratulatory message, the General Secretary has said that the  leadership of President Ranil Wickramasinghe will be crucial for building a favourable environment and stability to overcome the current challenges the country is facing.

The Secretary General of the United Nations further pointed out the importance of consulting with the public as well as encouraging conversation between all stakeholders, including respect for the rule of law and basic human rights principles.

Mr Antonio said that he expects to continue the cooperation of the United Nations Organization for peace building, sustainable development and promotion of human rights for all Sri Lankans.
