The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association states that there is a severe shortage of bread flour in the country.
Only 75% of the flour requirement for bakeries in the country is obtained As such, the bakery industry is collapsing. Mr. Jayawardena said.
He added that bakery products have been reduced due to this and bakery owners have had to increase their prices.
Although a loaf of bread sells for around 100 rupees today, in the future it will not be possible to buy a loaf of bread for even three or four hundred rupees.
Due to this he requested the government to re-impose the control price on bread flour as soon as possible and intervene to control the price of flour.
