Indian fisherman damaged fishing equipment and attacked with a petrol bomb the Sri Lankan fishermen; 21 Indian arrested

Fishermen in Jaffna have taken to the streets to protest and fast in several places in Jaffna on the 1st due to a clash between Indian fishing vessels entering the North Sea and fishermen in Jaffna. Vadamarachchi fishermen nab three Indian trawlers that had entered the Sakkottai seas off Jaffna on 31 nights.

Northern fishermen also said that one fisherman was injured in a petrol bomb attack by Indian fishermen. Also, fishermen in the Supermadum area in Point Pedro said that Indian fishermen destroyed nets worth over one million rupees and fled. 

Because of that Its fishermen have started a fast yesterday demanding a solution to the fishing problems by blocking a road to Point Pedro.

Sri Lankan Navy reported that they arrested 21indian fishermen with two trawler boats. The vessels of the Indian fishermen were surrounded by the Northern fishermen and the Northern Naval Command was informed Later, the Navy chased down the trawlers of Indian fishermen who tried to flee by attacking the northern fishermen and arrested them seizing the two boats.

Meanwhile, the 21 Indian fishermen arrested were brought to the Kankesanthurai Naval Base and handed over to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department for further investigations.
