Ranjan is brought to court

Former Minister of State Ranjan Ramanayake has been produced before the Supreme Court today (24) on a second charge of contempt of court.

Prison officials brought him to the Supreme Court a short while ago.

The trial is set to begin today.

Supreme Court has ordered that the second complaint filed against former Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, who is currently serving a prison term for contempt of court, be called back on March 09.

The case was taken up before a bench of Justices S Thurai Raja, Yasantha Kodagoda and AHMD Nawaz today (24).

Attorney-at-Law Ashan Fernando, appearing for Ranjan Ramanayake, requested that a date be set for the case to be taken up.

After considering the request, the three-judge bench directed that the case be re-called on March 09.
