India’s game which ignored the covid risk

The number of daily vovid infections in neighboring India, which is under Omicron invasion, is increasing rapidly.

 However, despite the risk of an epidemic, a bullfight was reportedly organized in Tamil Nadu.

The people of Tamil Nadu call these gonpora shows ‘Jallikattu’. In Tamil Nadu, the festival begins after the January harvest.

In the ‘Jallikattu’ competition, a cow is chased and wrestled. Bullfighting does not take place at the festival, but animal rights activists call the ‘jallikattu’ bullfights a cruel act.

 Accordingly, the Supreme Court in 2014 banned bullfighting, which has been a popular pastime among the people of Tamil Nadu for centuries.

However, with the approval of the Government of India to hold ‘Jallikattu’ bullfights again in 2017, those competitions will be held again throughout the state of Tamil Nadu.
