Young woman killed in elevator crash

A 26-year-old woman has died after an elevator collapsed at a plastic factory in Pilimatalawa. The two victims were a woman residing in the Balana area, police said.

Another woman who was injured in the accident is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The factory, which manufactures polythene bags and rice bags, has three floors, police said.

The accident had taken place when an elevator carrying goods had crashed down while loading goods from the third floor.

 Kadugannawa police are conducting further investigations.
